       WELCOME TO MY SENSORY WORLD!

What is Targeted Sensory-Motor Training?- TSMT

Targeted Sensory-Motor Training is an early intervention program designed for children with developmental delays in the cognitive, motor/movement and social areas due to immaturity of the nervous system. It typically benefits children between the ages of  1 - 7 years.

Katalin Lakatos, Ph.D developed the program 25 years ago in Hungary. It is designed to aid the development of the nervous system by improving gross and fine motor movements through an individualised program to fit the needs of the child. Our goal is for the child to be able to experience the joys and challenges of daily tasks with the minimal energy investment possible.

After administering a Longitudinal Complex Examinatioon (Longikid@), a specialised exercise program is prepared based upon the results of the test. Areas addressed include perception, concentration and attention, co-ordination, spatial orientation and rhythm together with memory and speech development. The child is given the opportunity to relive and thereby reinforce the steps of neural development, strengthening neural pathways that serve as a basis for reading, writing and computation.

HOW TSMT WORKS?

Imagine a six-lane highway with the traffic moving smoothly and efficently. This is how we can describe a mature and highly-functioning nervous system.

Now imagine a scenario where the lanes are reduced to only two and the surface road is rough. This is how we can think of the immature and less efficient nervous system where information is reduced in its ability to flow.

With TSMT we stimulate the immature areas of the brain with varied and consciously planned movements thereby stimulating and creating new pathways so that  the information reaches its destination.

Isn't that fantastic? Our bodies is capable of far more than we realise!

Individual Targeted Sensory-Motor Training  is recommended for children between  1 - 7 years who are displaying one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Delayed language and speech development

  • Delayed gross motor and fine motor development

  • Shortness of attention and inability to concentrate

  • Behavioral problems

  • Irrepressible desire for continuous movement

  • Sensory processing disorders

  • Lack of cooperation

  • Central nervous system injury under the age of 5

  • School maturity difficulties

  • Regulation disorders (eating, sleeping)

  • Learning-based disorders (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia)

  • Childhood Autism (when the child is uncooperative)

  • Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD and ADD

  • Weakness of control functions

This is how we do the training :)

Developing arm control and attention through synchronised activities using force distribution.

Development of balance, arm-body control, synchronised functions.

Focusing on balance through activities design to improve coordination body control and concentration.
